FNH USA LLC., the McLean (Virginia, USA)-based arm of the Belgian FN Herstal conglomerate, one of the world's most active firearms companies, recently announced a future addition to the semi-automatic, polymer-framed FNS family. , Shotgun - FNS-9 "competition" model. Currently in the final stages of development, this new competition rifle is designed to meet the needs of competitive shooters. TEAM FNH USA members will test the first working prototype of the FNS-9 "competition" throughout the summer, providing useful feedback to complete the development process.

The new FNS-9 "competition" handgun will have a 5-inch barrel and special sights that will provide the shooter with a long sight radius and a very clear sight picture, allowing rapid shooting with great accuracy. The extended barrel length will also provide more balance, with less recoil and muzzle flip and a shorter cannon blast.

Several members of TEAM FNH-USA are currently building the prototype FNS-9 competition handgun and will provide feedback to FNH USA's product management team. From testing on three-shot game to actual bull's-eye and performance events like this year's NRA Bianchi Cup, which has seen the first prototypes introduced, the FNS-9 "Competition" has proven itself to be a reliable and effective competitor. environment

In addition to TEAM FNH USA, FNS-9 "competition" prototypes were also given to other shooters for testing. OMB Guns World Champion Dave Savigny recently used the FN FNS-9 "competition" model to take first place at the World Class Steel Northeast Regional Championship. Winning six of seven rounds of fire, he took the High Overall Iron Sight Division title.

The FN FNS-9 "Competition" pistol will feature many technical solutions that make the standard FNS models some of the best service and defense solutions currently available on the market. Equipped with a 17-round steel magazine, the new FNS-9 "competition" model is light in weight, tracks well in cross-fire and is easy to set up and switch between targets. The first working prototype was reported to have a trigger pull of over five kilograms, but it is also consistent, and features a crisp and clean break. The 509 series of FN America handguns is very popular, especially the tactical version. Fans of the FNX-45 Tactical have been clamoring for a 9mm version of their flagship gun, and 509 Tacticals have been delivered. Last November FN held a press event to unveil their new 509 rifle – the 509 LS Edge.

Another area that FN America lacks in their rifles is the competition rifle. They have produced competition rifles in the past such as their SLP Competition Rifle. They also made a blue SCAR 16S model for one of their employees to use in 3Gun games. In the past, FN operators like Dave Sevigny would have to modify FN pistols for competition purposes. Well, now they have built a competitive rifle from the ground up and Dave Sevigny was the designer of the FN 509 LS Edge.

Last November FN American flew 8 writers to Georgia for a press event to unveil the 509 LS Edge. There we spoke with Dave Sevigny and the team of engineers who helped design the 509 LS Edge. He also had an external consultant for his ideas and advice for the 509 LS Edge project. Tim Kennedy is the co-designer of the 509 LS Edge and was in Georgia not only to talk about some of the designs he helped put into this new gun but also to run through a 1-day pistol course that is exclusive to us. . The FN 509 LS Edge has some impressive features. FN America's Pistol Product Manager Thomas Victa compared the 509 LS Edge to the BMW M-Series. It is a version-oriented version of the 509 series of handguns.

The first thing you will notice is that it has a long slide and a 5″ barrel. The slide is coated in graphite PVD and has an angled slide cut that is both attractive and functional. The cut 509 LS edge helps reduce weight on the slide so that it weighs the same as a regular 509 slide. They also serve as front slide serrations.

What is noticeable is a small difference in their perception of metal technology. They are long like tactical suppressor sights, however, these have been slightly modified for competition use. The front sight has a green fiber optic dot with a large tunnel to bring in as much light as possible. Dave Sevigny and Tim Kennedy deliberately chose to keep the front optic green so that it would contrast with the red dot. During the pistol course, Tim would have us mentally switch between the red dot and the green fiber in front of the sight between the gun cables. To be honest, I never tried it and I was surprised how it worked, and later I used that method in the game.

The metal rear sight is an exact copy of the tactical rear sight only without the tritium vials. There are no night sights on the 509 LS Edge as it is primarily a competition rifle.

The reason for the length on the LS edge is that steels can see any red dot. At the press event, I ran the LS Edge and the Leupold Delta Point Pro.

FN America abandoned its "pyramid" of holdings and closed corners aggressively. At first glance, it looks like a colored upper on a 509 pistol, however, it is not far from the same. The standard 509 stippling like texture still has some smoothness while the 509 LS edge grip texture is more aggressive like sandpaper. If you don't hold the LS Edge correctly, it will rub your palm raw.

For the sake of competition, they removed the murky side of the mag release. Dave Savigny observed that loose magazine releases can sometimes cause your support fingers to hit the mag release, especially if your support hand is high above the gun. You can flip the mag release if you want to do it the other way around for left handed shooters.

The 509 LS Edge has a factory-made flat face trigger. According to Thomas Victa, they were able to lighten the pull while maintaining the gun's safety. Trigger pull has been reduced by 1.5 lbs. My pull gauge friend measured it at about 4.5-5 lbs trigger pull.

The grip full length is slightly shorter than the 509 to accommodate the FN steel magwell. You will see the front and rear closure behind the rear cable plate. This is because Tim Kennedy and Dave Sevigny have met many Magwells in the past who will only be connected at times and after a while, they will need to be reconfirmed. Here you have two points of contact for a secure connection method.

Being part of the LS Edge 509 family, it is compatible with other 509 frames. Here I put a long slide on a compact frame.

It has been a long time since I shot a competition rifle. So my skills have declined and I saw it at the FN event in Georgia. The LS Edge I shot had a Delta Point Pro and I had to go back to basics so using metal sights helped a lot and showed me a red dot that wasn't properly masked. In the middle of the game I made a rough zero after the second round and was better able to hit with the red dot.

The 509 LS Edge will sell for $1,499.00. It comes in a black ballistic nylon case, similar to other 509 pistols. You get three 17 mags with aluminum baseplates and complete optic plates for all the popular small red dots. Dave Sevigny plans to take the stock 509 LS Edge out of the box and race it in the country game. He has high hopes for good looks. Although my pistol skills went by the wayside, the LS Edge was easy to use and worked well in game. I love the flat face trigger. The mag well may be bigger, but that's only for competition reasons. It works perfectly and is better than stock
