The first thing you will notice is that it has a long slide and a 5″ barrel. The slide is coated in graphite PVD and has an angled slide cut that is both attractive and functional. What is noticeable is a small difference in their perception of metal technology. They are long like tactical suppressor sights, however, these have been slightly modified for competition use. The front sight has a green fiber optic dot with a large tunnel to bring in as much light as possible. Dave Sevigny and Tim Kennedy deliberately chose to keep the front optic green so that it would contrast with the red dot. During the pistol course, Tim would have us mentally switch between the red dot and the green fiber in front of the sight between the gun cables. To be honest, I never tried it and I was surprised how it worked, and later I used that method in the game.
The metal rear sight is an exact copy of the tactical rear sight only without the tritium vials. There are no night sights on the 509 LS Edge as it is primarily a competition rifle.

The reason for the length on the LS edge is that steels can see any red dot. At the press event, I ran the LS Edge and the Leupold Delta Point Pro.
FN America abandoned its "pyramid" of holdings and closed corners aggressively. At first glance, it looks like a colored upper on a 509 pistol, however, it is not far from the same. The standard 509 stippling like texture still has some smoothness while the 509 LS edge grip texture is more aggressive like sandpaper. If you don't hold the LS Edge correctly, it will rub your palm raw.
For the sake of competition, they removed the murky side of the mag release. Dave Savigny observed that loose magazine releases can sometimes cause your support fingers to hit the mag release, especially if your support hand is high above the gun. You can flip the mag release if you want to do it the other way around for left handed shooters.
The 509 LS Edge has a factory-made flat face trigger. According to Thomas Victa, they were able to lighten the pull while maintaining the gun's safety. Trigger pull has been reduced by 1.5 lbs. My pull gauge friend measured it at about 4.5-5 lbs trigger pull.

The grip full length is slightly shorter than the 509 to accommodate the FN steel magwell. You will see the front and rear closure behind the rear cable plate. It has been a long time since I shot a competition rifle. So my skills have declined and I saw it at the FN event in Georgia. The LS Edge I shot had a Delta Point Pro and I had to go back to basics so using metal sights helped a lot and showed me a red dot that wasn't properly masked. In the middle of the game I made a rough zero after the second round and was better able to hit with the red dot.
