Em 50 Urban Assault Vehicle - I can't find anything about a paper model that comes with the 35th Anniversary Edition, but I did get a free paper model from StarCarz KoolWheelz Paper Models

It was the paperwork that came with the DVD. It is printed only, but can be copied to better material before building.

I've been toying with the idea (no pun intended) of starting a large model with one of these:

Another option could be to start with the "Hess" version. I have one of these from when I was a kid and it was on my list to try and convert it. You can find them for a decent price, especially if you are not concerned about the "mint" condition.

It's just over 11" long, just under 5" tall (to top of AC units; 4" to ceiling), and just under 4" wide (not including mirrors). Which apparently does about 1/25 scale.

I just edited my post to include it, but I didn't realize you were beating the question to me.

. It's supposedly pretty close to 1/25 scale. Here he is next to a 1/25 scale car.

I looked for some on EBAY. Again, if you don't mind coin box/collector value, I've seen them as low as $13

I think the 1980 styling is obviously different from the 1970 version, but not significantly enough to rule it out.

When people raise their eyebrows after learning our RV is 44 years old, we ask if they've seen the movie Stripes. You can see them looking back at the flashback movie in their mind and…

Here he is next to a 1/25 scale car. View Attachment 1282861 Click to expand... The GMC was made in two lengths: 23 and 26 feet. I don't know which version they used in the movie, but we can assume that the model in the photo is the 23ft version. The General Lee measures 17.3 feet

The problem with commercial miniatures is that they tend to be built on a studio scale ie; whatever is convenient to do. The GMC is probably more like 1/27 to 1/29 rather than a standard 1/25. As for the size of the wheels, it appears that the wheels on a GL car are larger than the wheels on a GMC pickup truck. We know it can't be right.

Here is my attempt at building the EM-50. I used the Hess van as a base and built all the details from scratch. In a recent comment, Bob Amundson promised to send me a picture of his new Urban Assault Vehicle, a la "Stripes".

I've been meaning to email you since you posted mentioning the movie Stripes. Attached is a picture of a REAL EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle, which I own. The FMC garage has an interesting lineage; FMC is the acronym for Food Machinery Corporation. FMC began in 1883, continued to add mechanized products, and eventually began producing amphibious vehicles for the military. During a lull in its military vehicle contracts when the Vietnam War ended, FMC set its sights on recreational vehicles; FMC motorhomes were made between 1973 and 1976. Well-made, expensive motorhomes that sold for between $27,000 and $54,500 (about the same price as an average home of that era) were popular with luxury motorhome buyers, including racing drivers Mario Andretti and Parnelli Jones; and artists Clint Eastwood, Carol Burnett, Pat Boone and James Brolin. But FMC's most famous owner was CBS reporter Charles Kuralt, host of the popular news show On the Road With Charles Kuralt. In 1975, FMC had a contract to produce the Bradley Fighting Vehicle, and in September 1976 it converted all tooling at its factory to tank production. The final tally for the FMC was just over 1,000 units; it is believed that between 7 and 800 units remain. Ours is a 1975 - it's built like a military vehicle, especially the 4-wheel independent suspension and turbocharged MOPAR 440 engine. This vehicle actually has a bullet hole in it - the story is that the vehicle was impounded at the US/Canada border after a shootout between border police and drug smugglers. It has a fiberglass body, making it relatively lightweight for its size. I'm going to convert it into an urban assault vehicle; "wrap" the fiberglass body to mimic the UAV Stripes. Add some machine guns, probably a rocket launcher. We are going to completely renovate the interior: modern, top of the line, small, efficient. Once that is done, my wife Joan and I are going to take a trip. TV maybe? Marketing will lead to the rental of the UAV. I just need to figure out how much I can charge! The "REAL" EM-50 UAV was a GMC RV, and we made about 36,000 of them. I think my find is cooler and I found it less than a mile from our RV park. On another occasion, I will tell you about the classic 1965 Airstream Travel Trailer that I bought from the neighbor of the Park. It has a "GRIMM" story. Heal soon!

So it's almost ready to roll, and as I look at them I think, "These are exactly the kind of entrepreneurs I want working on my EM-50 project in Italy!"
