A 16-year-old accused of beating and sexually assaulting his teacher in April was charged with 10 felonies on Friday.
Eldorado High School Teacher Assault
Jonathan Martinez Garcia initially faced 15 felony counts, but a grand jury on Friday returned 10 counts: kidnapping with serious bodily injury, two counts of strangulation with intent to sexually assault, assault with intent to sexually assault. resulting in aggravated assault, two counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, attempted murder, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault and robbery.
Las Vegas Teen Allegedly Sexually Assaulted Teacher Over Grades
After a second mental health evaluation, Martinez Garcia was found competent to stand trial on July 29 in connection with the April 7 shooting at Eldorado High School.
Las Vegas police say a teenager assaulted his teacher after he went to her classroom to discuss his grades. According to the arrest report, he strangled the teacher with a "rope or cord," slammed her head against her desk, knocked her unconscious and moved a shelf over her before sitting on top of her.
The teenager initially told police he passed out and did not remember the attack, but later recalled trying to choke the teacher. He also told police he raped her.
Assistant District Attorney William Rowles said Martinez Garcia is scheduled to appear in Clark County District Court on Wednesday after his arraignment. He did not want to comment further on the case.

A 16-year-old student has been arrested on charges of sexual assault and attempted murder in Thursday's attack on a teacher at Eldorado High School.
Las Vegas police said they were dispatched around 3:30 p.m. Thursday to the school, 1139 N. Linn Lane, where medical personnel were found in a classroom treating a woman with multiple injuries.
Police said an investigation revealed the student entered the classroom to discuss his grades with the teacher.
Eldorado Student Accused Of Assaulting Teacher Appears In Court
"At some point, the suspect became violent, punching and choking the victim until he lost consciousness," the Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement Friday. "After the attack, the suspect fled the classroom, the victim was later found by another staff member."
The teenager was arrested about a mile from the Cedar Avenue school and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges of attempted murder, sexual assault, assault with intent to sexually assault, kidnapping and robbery, police said.
"I am devastated and the CCSD family is hurting for the teacher who was assaulted at Eldorado Middle School," Clark County School District Superintendent Jesus Jara wrote in an email to staff Friday afternoon. "Our hearts are heavy for the violence against him and we pray for his full recovery."
"While this incident is now in the hands of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, you can be assured that the suspect will be held accountable for his actions," the emails said.

"We must ensure that our educators remain safe while doing the important work of teaching our children — their safety and well-being is our highest priority," Sisolak wrote. “We also need to provide our students with the resources they need to receive the mental health support they need. I have made education a priority since the beginning of my administration and will continue to work with parents, teachers, students and the community.”
Marie Neiss, president of the Clark County Education Association, was on campus Friday and Jara spoke with staff. He told reporters that teachers are worried that many students have come to campus with weapons or started fights. He did not mention any specific incident on campus.
"The district was warned that this would escalate to the point where someone was going to be seriously hurt, and that's what happened to the educators," he said. “They really don't feel safe.
Neisess said the association is pressing the school district to activate disability cameras on campus, consider panic alarms in classrooms and hire more staff. Friday was the last day of school for students in the school district before spring break, and Neisses said she hopes for immediate changes after the break.

"We're understaffed," he said. "We don't have enough social workers. We don't have enough campus monitors or school police ready to respond to this."
Denyla Green, 16, and Devon Watts, 15, both sophomores at Eldorado, said there were rumors of sexual harassment on campus Thursday and Friday.
Watts said she saw an ambulance on campus after school Thursday and learned about the sexual assault through social media posts.
