A defense attorney for a student accused of battery or sexual assault may request a reconsideration of the juvenile's case.
During Friday's hearing, District Judge Christy Craig said Jonathan Eleutherio Martinez Garcia has been found competent to face 15 counts related to the April 7 attack at Eldorado High School. But barrister Paul Adras said he could order an "independent assessment" for the 16-year-old.
Court records show the teenager faces four counts of attempted murder, trespassing Sex and sexual abuse, kidnapping, robbery and theft. Las Vegas police say a teenager beat and sexually assaulted a teacher after she entered the classroom. Study to discuss his class.
Report Details Attack On Eldorado High School Teacher
According to the arrest report, Martinez-Garcia entered the classroom and choked her with a "restraint or rope" and then slammed her head on the desk, knocking her unconscious. The teacher told police that she asked Martinez Garcia why he hurt her, and he replied that he "didn't like the teacher" and was "getting revenge."
During the attack, according to the arrest report, he moved the shelf over the woman and sat on it and tried to cut her hand. He told the teacher, "You can't die now, hurry up," according to the report.
Martinez Garcia initially told police she "reacted" and did not remember the attack, but later said she remembered trying to choke the teacher. He also told the police that he raped her.
"I don't know why I attacked her, she was good to me," he said, according to the arrest report.

Las Vegas Student Arrested For Attempted Murder, Sex Assault Of High School Teacher

A 16-year-old student has been arrested on charges of sexual assault and attempted murder in connection with Thursday's attack on an Eldorado High School teacher.
Las Vegas police said they were dispatched around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday to the school at 1139 N. Linn Lane, where they found paramedics treating a woman in the classroom for multiple injuries.
Police said their investigation revealed the student entered the classroom to discuss his grades with the teacher.
Year Old Attacks Teacher Inside Her Classroom; Now Charged With Attempted Murder, Sexual Assault
"At some point, the suspect became violent and began beating the victim and choking him until he died," the Metropolitan Police Department said on Friday. "After the attack, the suspect fled the classroom and the victim was found by another employee."
The teenager was arrested about a mile from the school on Cedar Avenue and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges of attempted murder, sexual assault, battery with intent to sexually assault, kidnapping and robbery, police said.
"I am heartbroken and the CCSD family is heartbroken for the teacher who was raped at Eldorado High School," Clark Superintendent Hayes Jara said in an email to staff Friday afternoon. "Our hearts are heavy with the violence against him and we pray for his full recovery."
"While this incident is in the hands of the Las Vegas Police Department, rest assured that this suspect will be held accountable for his actions," the email said.
Ccsd Needs Meaningful Change In Wake Of Brutal Attack
"We want to ensure that our teachers are safe because they do such an important job in educating our children - their safety and well-being is our primary concern," Sisolak said. "We must also provide the necessary resources for our students to meet their mental health needs. I have made education a priority since the beginning of my administration and will continue to work with parents, teachers, students and the community."
Marie Neisses, president of the Clark County Education Association, was on campus Friday and Jara spoke to staff. He told reporters that teachers were scared after some students came in. On campus with weapons or incited to fight. He did not refer to any specific incident on campus.
"We warned the district that it would come to a point where someone was seriously injured, and this happened to a teacher," he said. "They feel really insecure."
Neissez said the association is calling on school districts to activate disability cameras on campus, consider alarms in classrooms and hire more staff across the board. Friday is the last day of school before spring break for students at the school, and Neisses said she hopes to see changes immediately after the break.

"We don't have enough staff," he said. "We don't have social workers. We don't have campus administrators or school police ready to respond."
Denila Green, 16, and Devon Watts, 15, both high school seniors at Eldorado, said rumors of sexual harassment spread around campus Thursday and Friday.
Watts said he saw an ambulance on campus Thursday after school and learned of the sexual assault through social media.
